Lopatin

Square tone holes. Could that possibly make a difference? This is the idea that came to Leonard E. Lopatin during his tour with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and that in 1979 spurred him to leave the Met. During the next 15 years he trained with one of the Boston area's top flute companies still focused on his goal of eventually bringing his own contributions to the improvement of the flute. In 1994 he founded the Lopatin Flute Company, his extensive experience as a flutist and high skills as a flutemaker were now forged into one unified force. In 2002, he moved the company from the Boston area to Asheville, North Carolina where it flourishes today. Lopatin flutes are meticulously handcrafted in a variety of precious metals and stainless steel. The Lopatin Concert C flutes are offered with a choice of round or signature square tone holes while the Lopatin Alto and piccolo are made only with the unique square tone holes. Each style has its own distinctive tone quality and response, creating a broad range of performance possibilities.
