Scherzo from Midsummer Night's Dream
Mendelssohn, F
From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, and transcribed by Pierre Paubon, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Scherzo from the incidental music to ‘A Midsummer’s Night Dream’, op.61 is one of the most beloved pieces in the classical music repertoire. It was written in 1843 at the request of the King of Prussia. The winning playful qualities of the Scherzo make themselves readily felt through themes and motives consisting of very quick, cleanly articulated, light, sprightly eight- and sixteenth-notes. The present work transcribes this 'bubbliness' for flute and piano musically, demanding both flutist and pianist to become the voice of the full orchestra. Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy is a beloved German composer, pianist and conductor of the 19th century.
