Several outstanding musicians of the Potsdam Hofkapelle - Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Benda, Quantz himself, and others - have written trio compositions which demand two solos instrument and basso continuo. Quantz filled this Trio in E-flat Major with the cheerful sound of the carefree, artistic world of Sanssouci.

According to its original title, the Trio was conceived for flute, violin, and basso continuo - and so Hortus Musicus presents it here with both a realized keyboard accompaniment and an alternate continuo part for cello or other basso instrument in place of keyboard.
