This simple, four-movement sonatina by Schubert was the third of three sonatas originally written by the composer for violin and piano in 1816. With more simplistic melodies and harmonies than Schubert’s later compositions, this early work reflects some features of the compositions of Mozart and other classical composers, though perhaps with a more intimate character. This piece makes a wonderful recital selection for the intermediate to advanced player.
