Martha Stoddard presents Leaving for alto flute or flute alone, the second of her Music for Flutes series.

Music for Flutes is a set of three works tied together melodically and in mood, but with unique unfolding of themes. Leaving, the second of these works, is a eulogy for the composer s mother. It has three sections - departure, resistance and acceptance. Major and minor seconds, augmented fourths and sequential patterns of these intervals prevail and the overall effect is improvisatory in quality.
