This music captures the intensity and increasing animation that a prophet might have in presenting his/her message. It is an impressive showcase for the alto flute.
In ancient times, an oracle was a priest or priestess through whom it was believed that the gods spoke. It was also the place where these divinely-inspired prophesies of the future were passed down to mortals. The title is a reflection of the serious mood of the work and is intended to represent the intensity and increasing animation that a prophet might have in presenting his/her message. Oracle is cast in two main parts. A slow, dramatic opening passage presents ideas which are developed and lead into the faster concluding section.
