Revised by Jean-Louis Beaumadier, Heinrich Weiss’ Singvogelchen or ‘Singing Birds’ Polka op. 55 is an exciting depiction of birds chirping, and full of merriment. As one might expect, the piccolo line is agile and quick. Trills, graces, and precise quick tonguing embody the entire three minute work. The piano accompaniment both supports the piccolo line beautifully, while also serving as a duet for the piccolo. ‘Singing Birds’ is perfect as an encore for any recital. Three minutes in length, Weiss masterfully draws the ear into the music.
