Zen-On Music presents Norio Fukushi's Against the Island of Sleepiness for solo flute, commissioned and premiered by Hiroshi Koizumi in 2009.
Written in one through composed movement, this 21st century flute solo utilizing many extended techniques including key claps, wind tones, fluttertongue, and harmonics just to name a few. Marked at quarter note= 54-58, this solo creeps and crawls, sounding as if the flute itself is fighting off sleep. . .
