Greensleeves: A Meditation
Hagen, T
"Greensleeves, the English folk tune better known to Christian traditions as What Child is This?, has long been one of my favorite Christmas carols. It lives in a space that is not major or minor but rather modal, a liminal space, the crack between dark and light. No matter your religious beliefs, this is rather fitting, as we approach the winter solstice.
As we approach the darkest time of 2020, a rather dark year, I offer my take on Greensleeves as a meditation. Without darkness, light is meaningless. Hang on; light is coming." -Timothy Hagen
