Francaix, J
Jean Francaix presents the Divertimento for flute and orchestra, here in a reduction for flute and piano.
'Divertimento for flute and piano of 1953 is a fine example of Francaix's musical language. Dedicated to flute master Jean-Pierre Rampal, this five-movement work begins with a bright Toccatina, the miniature version of a toccata (a fast rhythmic piece designed to showcase the virtuosity of the performer.) Another fast, though chromatically based movement, titled Perpetuum Mobile, is framed by a slow, lyrical Notturno and lilting Romanze. The work ends with a fine example of a Francaix Finale-bright and conversational between the flute and piano.'
