Hahn, R :: Sonata in C Major
Sonata in C Major, by Reynaldo Hahn, arranged for Flute and Piano by Danilo Mezzadri. Venezuelan-born French composer Reynaldo Hahn composed this sonata originally for violin and piano in 1926. The Sonata starts with a lyrical movement that stylistically resembles Gabriel Fauré’s way of writing with its beautiful and expressive melodies that continuously alternate between the flute and the piano. The second movement is an absolute contrast of the mesmerizing lyricism encountered before. The title is "12 C.V. (horses) – 8 cylinders – 5000 turns", which describes a transportation vehicle that Hahn used while traveling from Deauville and Cannes Casino where he was appointed as musical director, to Paris so he could be able to attend the first performances of his work. Lastly, in the third movement Hahn rings back the elegance and beauty of the delicate melodies enriched with a bit of fury and virtuosity.

Hall, J :: Passchendaele Poeme
Passchendaele Poeme
Hall, JJonty Hall presents Passchaendale Poeme for flute and piano, in three movements.
Passchendaele is a small village five miles north-east of Ypres. The 3rd Battle of Ypres was fought there. On 18 July 1917 the Allied troops began a heavy ten day bombardment before the main attack; 3,000 guns fired over 4 million shells. The battle commenced on the 31st of July, and stretched on until November the 10th, 1917. Heavy rain began on the day of attack, producing thick mud, which caked uniforms and clogged rifles; It became so deep that men, horses and pack mules drowned in it.
The Germans, who had used chlorine gas in the 2nd Battle of Ypres, now used mustard gas which inflicted chemical burns. The offensive resulted in gains for the Allies, but it was not the great breakthrough that was hoped for. The Allies suffered 310,000 casualties, the Germans 260,000.
Just southwest of the village of Passchendaele is the Cemetery and Memorial - Tyne Cot. It is the resting place of 11,954 Commonwealth soldiers and is the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world. The Tyne Cot Memorial is a long wall which carries the names of 34,863 British soldiers who have no known grave.
Pals battalions became synonymous with the towns of northern Britain. Men enlisted because they could serve alongside their friends, relatives and workmates.

Haller, H :: Piece en forme de fantaisie
Hermann Haller presents the Piece en forme de fantaisie for flute and piano.
The three interconnected movements of the Piece begin with a measureless flute monologue, with a quiet piano interlude in the center of the first movement. The second movement begins with a playful (yet dark)Poco allegro, though it, too, descends into measureless fantasia. The third movements marks a stronger return into strict Allegro, and the piece ends with a strong rhythmic drive.
For advanced players.
