Istvan Szelenyi presents his Sonata in One Movement for Flute and Piano (1925), published posthumously by his son, Laszlo Szelenyi.

The editor writes about this piece, "This sonata is a work by my father when he was young, who composed the piece when he was twenty-one. This is the composition of a student. Nevertheless, it does not seem like a 'homework', but rather personal and subjective with its pessimistic, resigned mood, almost with its Wertherian world pain. This work was not composed at all for educational purposes, like the many well-known, later and successful little pieces of the composer; nevertheless it can be mastered technically well by vocational students.  For aspiring soloists on the flute with a beautiful tone, good agogical, and rubato performance, the sonata is also a graceful competition piece."
