Francesco Maria Veracini s 12 Sonatas for flute (or recorder) and basso continuo, published posthumously, were written for the court of Augustus III of Poland as an injection of Venetian culture. Unpublished in the composer s lifetime, the sonatas are now easily available and serve as a highlight of the delicate Venetian baroque style.
Each sonata opens with a largo or adagio movement that establishes themes and moods, though the latter three movements vary more wildly, with dances and arias interspersed throughout.
In this volume:
- Sonata No. 1 in F Major
- Sonata No. 2 in G Major
- Sonata No. 3 in d minor
