Yamaha went back to a clean slate, applying all of the knowledge, advancements, and skills they have obtained over the last two decades, to craft some of the finer handmade flutes available today. Focusing on innovation, they have created instruments that change the image of the Yamaha handmade flute significantly. The Yamaha handmades offer tone with charm and depth. Highly responsive with a wide dynamic range that spans from rich, sensitive pianissimo to highly resonant fortissimo, they allow the flutist to discover new limits of musical expression.

The new Yamaha Type A headjoint enables the flutist to produce an easy yet colorful sound and still play using a wide dynamic range. The newly designed lip plate promotes efficient playing technique and provides optimal resistance when paired with the new Handmade flute body. The Type A headjoint provides a high degree of freedom for musical expression, and has been praised by many players for its rich and clear sound, which is distinctive even at pianissimo.

The Yamaha 800 flutes provide resistance that will push the flutist to reach new limits of expression and artistry. Though it does provide some resistance, the new design of the Type A head joint make it possible to achieve crisp, clear articulation within all registers. The 800 will produce a palette of warm, colorful tones maintaining a rich clear sound that has been praised by many. The 800 is equipped with soldered tone holes combined with an undercut tone hole design. This results in thicker tone holes that help the flutist project and resonate in a performance hall, making it ideal for orchestral players. 

The Yamaha 800 Series handmade Sterling silver flutes feature a Sterling silver headjoint, body, and mechanism with soldered tone holes, open holes, Straubinger pads, C# trill key and B foot.

Available options include off-set or inline G, split E mechanism, and 0.43mm body thickness (heavy wall).
