Cuts and Styles

Miyazawa silver headjoints come in two styles - the MX Series and the MZ Series - each with their own tendences. Additionally, every Miyazawa headjoint can be upgraded with the metal tubing and riser of your choice and finished with optional lip plate and crown engravings.

MX Series

The MX Series headjoints feature a contemporary crown design and a golden-etched Miyazawa logo to emphasize their new, contemporary take on sound.

MX-1 - Characterized by a centered, focused sound that is easy to control. The dark harmonics result in a dense penetration that is consistent throughout all registers. With an ample amount of resistance, this style provides a solid foundation for articulation.
MX-2 - Open sound with a tonal complexity that allows for great freedom of expression. Full-bodied and responsive, while articulation is crisp and clean. Able to accommodate a high volume of air, this powerful style provides expansive projection with great stability.

MZ Series

The MZ Series headjoints are characterized by a more classic core sound. MZ 6, 7, 8, and 9 are in limited supply.

MZ-6 - Modern style design with an open, warm sound. Works well for flutists with a fast airstream and very relaxed embouchure. Plenty of harmonics and projection characterize this headjoint cut.
MZ-7 - Modern style headjoint with a generous amount of spin. Consistent tone and response throughout the registers. Designed for flutists with a very fast airstream seeking a powerful sound with a large, controlled dynamic range.
MZ-8 - Modern style headjoint with a well-defined rectangular shaped embouchure hole. Generally works best for flutists who direct their airstream far downward with a wide aperture.
MZ-9 - A modern version of a traditional style headjoint. Characterized by a dark sound, generous resistance, increased depth, as well as a rich tonal palette. Works well for those who use their air-speed to direct the sound.
MZ-10 - Allows the player to put a fast airspeed through the flute, achieving a rich and powerful sound. Characterized by plenty of lower partials anchoring the sound with a full harmonic spectrum. Flexible and responsive with a wide range of tonal and color possibilities.
MZ-11 - A more traditional style-sound in a modern headjoint design. Characterized by an open, dark and fluid sound with fewer high harmonics. Comfortable resistance with easily controlled dynamics and a round, warm response.

Metals and Risers

Every Miyazawa headjoint can be created with any metal listed below. The riser and lip plate can be upgraded separately from the headjoint tubing; the riser can be 14k gold, 24k gold, and platinum, or 14k gold or platinum with a 9k gold lip plate.

.958 Silver - 958 Silver is a unique silver alloy that consists of 95.8% pure silver. The increased density from sterling silver results in a darker sound with a remarkable array of tonal colors. Miyazawa 958 silver deepens the resonance in the sound without increasing the thickness of the wall.
Gold-Silver Alloy - An innovative composition made of 10 percent gold and 90 percent silver. Highly tarnish resistant, GS alloy combines the brilliance of silver with the textural warmth of gold resulting in a radiant, refined sound.
9k Gold - 9k gold is the ideal combination of the desired tonal qualities of both silver and gold. With abundant harmonics and structure, 9k gold provides a stable sonic foundation and a secure feeling when played.
14k Gold - 14k rose gold has a density greater than all of the metals described above. Rich overtones, a wondrous dynamic range, endless tonal variety – peerless qualities that put it in a class by itself.
Platinum - Platinum risers have a dark, deeply penetrating sound. With noticeably increased resistance, many flutists comment that they can push the sound without the worry of cracking notes, and response to articulation is unparalleled.
