Seikilos is the name of a Greek businessman who lived about 2500 years ago in Tralles (Asia Minor). When his wife died he had a burial column constructed which he had inscribed with what we now call the 'Seikilos Melody.' It is considered one of the most beautiful musical examples of antiquity, and certainly the oldest.
Istvan Horvath-Thomas's Dream of Seikilos sets the melody against a lush, clean harmonic setting, with both flute and guitar passing melodic ideas, accompaniment, and variations on the Seikilos melody back and forth.
