  • Kingma & Brannen Open Hole Alto Flute #170 (New)

Redesigned in 2011 with the help of Bickford Brannen, Eva Kingma redesigned her alto flutes, creating a light and elegant mechanism. The keys feature open holes, one of the only alto flutes of its kind. This allows for different timbral affects and fingerings, opening a whole new range of repertoire for the alto flutist.

The body and headjoint of the flute are solid silver with soldered tone holes, and padded with Straubinger pads. To limit the weight, silver-plating is used for the mechanism.

Kingma & Brannen Open Hole Alto flute #170 has pointed arms, a B footjoint, and both straight and curved headjoints.

  • Matusi Buzzing Headjoint

The sterling silver Matusi headjoint, fitted with a vibrating membrane operated by a key, is an invention of Matthias Ziegler and worked out by Eva Kingma, an innovative flutemaker from The Netherlands. Created in Kingma's workshop by David Kerkhof, Matusi headjoints allow a quick switch between a dark, pure flute sound and a buzzing tone, useful for the increasing number of modern compositions that use this type of buzzing tone, many written for Gudrun Hinze, especially, and her flute quintet.

The Matusi sound is audible here, in this transcription for flute quintet of Saint-Saens' Danse Macabre.
