"There are numerous late 18th and early 19th century arrangements of Mozart's operas. They were very popular in their day, and be no means despised, as demonstrated by a letter which Mozart wrote to his father on July 20, 1782, containing the following remark about Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail. 'I am now faced with no mean task - I must score my opera for winds by next Sunday - otherwise somebody else will do it before me - and reap the profits instead.' An arrangement of Don Giovanni was scored for the same instruments. Other versions were for flute solo, two flutes, flute and violin, flute and string trio and flute and string quartet. Arrangements like this one, for three instruments, is fairly rare." - Franz Vester
