Carl D. Hall Piccolo Competition
For full time high school and college students through age 29 by 3/22/2022
The Atlanta Flute Club is pleased to announce the Carl D. Hall Piccolo Artist Scholarship, given in memory of Carl D. Hall, one of our founding members and an avid supporter of the Atlanta Flute Club. The competition is open to full-time high school and college students who have not reached their thirtieth (30th) birthday. Applicants must be members of the Atlanta Flute Club and be current in their dues obligations. Applicants, your membership fee will be automatically added to your application fee at checkout. The competition will be by video audition (one take only), judged by a committee. The scholarship consists of a $500 cash prize to be used to further the winner’s music education, a custom piccolo headjoint from Pettry Piccolos, and a 30-minute piccolo recital at the 2022 Flute Fair.
The deadline for recorded audition submission is January 5, 2022, and there is a $40 application fee due upon submission.
Repertoire Requirements:
- Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto in C Major, RV 443, I. Allegro, II. Largo, with ornamentation on repeats (tuttis are not required)
- A contrasting work written after 1950 of the performer's choice
Junior Artist Competition
For 5th through 12th graders
The Atlanta Flute Club is pleased to announce its Junior Artist Competition, Middle School and High School divisions. The Middle School division is open to students from 5th grade through 8th grade, the High School division is open to students from 9th grade through 12th grade. Applicants and teachers must be local members of the Atlanta Flute Club and be current in their dues obligations. Applicants and teachers must be members of the Atlanta Flute Club (including Georgia and Southern states). Applicants, your membership fee will be automatically added to your application fee at checkout. A preliminary recorded AUDIO ONLY ONE-TAKE audition is required. A committee will judge the preliminary audition, and three finalists will be chosen to compete in the final round. Students may enter either the Junior Artist Competition or the Young Artist Competition, but may not apply for both.
*Due to Covid-19, the Junior Artist Competition will take place fully online this year.*
High School Division

Young Artist Competition

The Atlanta Flute Club announces its twenty-second annual Young Artist Competition. We are also pleased to share that this year, we are in partnership with the Flute Society of Greater Philadelphia so that competitors can take advantage of shared repertoire for the preliminary round across competitions.
The competition is open to full-time high school and college students who have not reached their thirtieth (30th) birthday. Applicants must be members of the Atlanta Flute Club and be current in their dues obligations. Applicants, your membership fee will be automatically added to your application fee at checkout. A preliminary recorded AUDIO ONLY ONE-TAKE audition is required. A committee will judge the preliminary audition, and three finalists will be chosen to compete at the AFC Flute Fair in 2022.
First place - $1200
Second place - $500
Third place - $250
The first place winner will be featured in recital at the 2023 Flute Fair. Please note that finalists will be required to register for the 2022 Flute Fair. The deadline for preliminary recorded audition submission is January 5, 2022, and there is a $50 application fee due upon submission. The three finalists will compete at the 2022 Flute Fair, each presenting a 25-30 minute program of their own choice. Finalists will be notified by February 1, 2022.
Preliminary Round Repertoire Requirements:
- J.S. Bach, Partita in A minor: Allemande (with first repeat)
- Adolphus Hailstork: Yuhwa (The Goddess of the Willow Trees)
- winner, NFA 2020 Newly Published Music Competition, solo flute
- Entrant's Choice: may be selected from any musical era. Choice Piece must be an original work composed for solo flute or flute and piano (transcriptions are not acceptable), and may not exceed 12 minutes in length (entrants may select one or more movements from a multi-movement piece); If the Choice Piece is composed for flute and piano, it must be performed with the accompaniment.
