His music is thus full of deeply Chinese and Russian idioms, though later tempered by the strong current of Americana prevalent at the time.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Flute Concerto is a prime example of his particular language; the quasi-Chinese melodies welded with Russian orchestration and flavor create an engaging, light texture, with memorable moments and frequent color changes. In three movements - a large-scale Andante, a central espressivo, and a brisk finale - two cadenzas, and plenty of melody and virtuoso passagework, the Avshalomov is an excellent lesser-known concert and competition piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFor advanced players.
