This Suite for Flute Quartet is based on five selections from the opera  Carmen  and is scored for 4 C flutes. Movement I is based on the 4th act  Entr acte , Movement II is based on the 3rd act  Entr acte , Movement III uses music from the  Sequidilla  in the 1st act, and Movement IV is based on the 2nd act  Entr acte  plus a section of the Finale from the 1st act.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e Georges Bizet composed several operas, including  The Pearl Fishers , before  Carmen , but the latter is universally considered his masterpiece and still one of the most popular operas on today s stages. Sadly, Bizet did not live to see his story of the fatal love between a gypsy woman and a renegade soldier become a worldwide success: the premiere at the Opera-Comique, just weeks before his untimely death, met with little enthusiasm from either public or critics.
