Demersseman was born January 9, 1833 in Hondschoote, France. He studied flute at the Conservatoire de Paris with Louis Tulou where he won first prize at the age of twelve. Demersseman wrote several pieces on flute; however, his most famous work was his ‘\u003cem\u003eSixth Solo de Concert\u003c\/em\u003e,’ Op. 82. This piece was written in the Romantic era and was believed to be composed in 1884. It was commonly known as the ‘\u003cem\u003eItalian Concerto\u003c\/em\u003e.’ Composed in F Major, It uses a Neapolitan folk melody in the middle movement and has a saltarello as the grand finale.
