Althought entitled 'Sonata', it is reminiscent of the Italian opera 'overture' with its slow introduction followed by an allegro. [Langevin's] revision is based on the first modern edition of this piece by Peters (ed. Raymond Meylan) from 1969 which, in turn, is based on the autograph in the 'Museo Donizettiano' in Bergamo. This edition contains a number of corrections which [Langevin kept] in addition to [corrections] that [he] made. As was customary in the early nineteenth century, the composer's articulations and dynamic markings are very sparse.
