The voice enters only in the last of the three movements with a setting of Shakespeare s line form Hamlet 'Good night flights of angels sing thee to the rest'. The dying resonance of the three tam-tams heralds the work s coda in which the name of Michael Vyner is enciphered on the piano. The score was completed in March 1990 and the finale was included in the London Sinfonietta s Concert for Michael Vyner at the Royal Opera House in May 1990.
