When he absolutely refused to divorce his Jewish wife he was forced to leave his job as music director for the radio, and his works could not be performed in public. The Short Suite was not played until 1946, after the war.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Improvisation on the Own Theme was written later, in 1956, after a series of folk cradle-songs.
