However in the midst of this piece occur short musical representations of the three temptations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn the case of the \u003cem\u003eVariations on an Old French Carol\u003c\/em\u003e, its association is with both Easter in its text of 'Love is Come Again' and in its Christmas text of 'Noel Nouvelet' (or as sung in English, 'Sing We Now of Christmas').\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe advent prelude, \u003cem\u003eMeditation upon a Sarum Plainsong\u003c\/em\u003e, uses the 7th century plainsong chant Conditor Alme Siderum as its basis, with frequent trope-like interpolations occurring between the phrases.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEven more simply conceived, the rendering of the Victorian Christmas hymn, \u003cem\u003eOnce in Royal David's City\u003c\/em\u003e.
