After the building of this peppermint motive, the music segues into C minor where the bass flutes present a siciliano theme, modified slightly to fit into 5\/8 time. The quasi da capo return is interrupted by the appearance of the concert flutes, fluidly swirling in a new color of harmonics, adding their motif to complete the concept of the candy cane.
