The idea of writing a song cycle with common musical themes but different languages had occurred to me before, but suddenly my circumstances provided a story to tell, and an urgency with which to tell it. \u003cem\u003eThe Passage of Time\u003c\/em\u003e refers to both the journey from moonlight through dawn to dusk, as depicted in the poetry by Verlaine, D'Annunzio and Uhland, and the rather longer journey from love and heartbreak to eventual acceptance.
