To this genre belong pieces for flute or violin which are intended for one, two, or four instruments.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe  Six Canonic Sonatas  for two flutes or two violins, op. 5 (1738), presented here by Barenreiter Urtext, are all in three movements. Two fast outer movements, either freely spun out or in song- or rondo-forms, typically frame a highly  affective  slow movement. The themes are galant or sentimental in character; at times humorous features are evident.
