His compositions for flute include the famous \u003cem\u003eSonata for Flute and Piano\u003c\/em\u003e, the \u003cem\u003eDuos for 2 Flutes\u003c\/em\u003e (Op. 34a) or for Flute and Clarinet (Op. 34b), and others.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eComposed in 1962, Robert Muczysnki’s \u003cem\u003eThree Preludes\u003c\/em\u003e, Op. 18, was his first foray into writing for instruments without accompaniment. These brief encore pieces were composed not long after the Sonata for Flute and Piano. The task was more difficult than he expected since the solo line is everything, with musical statements utterly exposed and somehow vulnerable.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe \u003cem\u003ePreludes\u003c\/em\u003e are fleeting excursions into moods of different character with the first being jaunty and playful. The second movement conveys a mood of serenity and expansiveness.
