Among Native American Great Plains tribes, the Sioux are considered the keeps of the Northern gate, and the Comanche, those of the Southern gate.

These children's songs, for both the concert flute and the Native American flute, are each given Comanche titles. They reflect certain aspects of Comanche sentiment or disposition. The Comanche language is essentially unwritten, and therefore my spellings are only phonetic and reflect only an attempt at recreating the sound of spoken Comanche.

The songs are presented in two keys, for Native American flutes in G or in F-sharp. Concert flutists should choose whichever version fits their particular instrument best." -David Yeagley
