12 Selections: Album For The Young

The 12 selections in this book have been taken from the well-known 'Album for the Young' by Robert Schumann. They have been arranged for the Flute Choir by Robert Cavally. Seven to ten flutes may be used, however, if larger choirs are desired, use all parts, and double each part.

These Four Songs of Robert Schumann originally for voice and piano have been arranged for flute and piano by Elizabeth Walker. The volume consists of Im wunderschönen Monat Mai (from Dichterliebe, Op. 48, No. 1), Schöne Wiege meiner Leiden (from Liederkreis, Op. 24, No. 5), Mit Myrten und Rosen (from Liederkreis, Op. 24, No. 9), and Stille Liebe (from 12 Gedichte, Op. 35, No. 8).

'As your bride, you must indeed dedicate something further to me, and I know of nothing more tender than these 3 Romances, in particular the middle one, which is the most beautiful love duet.'

Despite these words by Clara Schumann, her husband did not consider his 1839 Christmas gift of these three romances to be 'good or worthy enough' of her. All the same, these romances, originally written for oboe and piano and here presented for flute and piano, became one of Schumann's most successful compositions.
