Step-by-Step Process
1. Send Form Request
Please complete the form below with your instrument service request details.
2. Meet with a Technician
A Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company certified technician will contact you via phone or email to schedule and discuss your service request.
3. Send in your instrument
Once you have met with a technician to discuss service options, you can send in your instrument to our service department.
4. Technicians begin service
Upon receiving your instrument and you approve the scope of work, our technicians will start service in accordance with the agreed-upon schedule.
5. Track your status
Stay informed about the status of your repair via email or phone call.
6. Receive your instrument
Your item is shipped back to you once it has been serviced by Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company.
Service and Repair FAQ
Common repair services we offer include but are not limited to:
- Key adjustment
- Mechanism re-alignment
- Dent & scratch removal
- Pad, cork, & felt replacement
- Straubinger-certified pad repair & replacement
Costs vary depending on the item and the nature of service and repair needed. Our certified technicians provide an estimate first before proceeding with any work, allowing you to decide if you wish to accept and continue with the work or not.
The "COA" - Regular maintenance is often referred to as an "annual servicing" or a "clean, oil and adjust" (COA); regular servicing by a qualified repair technician of your instrument to keep it in good operating condition. Think of it as an oil & filter change for your car, but on a more delicate level.
COAs at Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company includes everything covered in a COA and :
- Complete disassembly
- Clean & hand polish tubing
- Clean & hand polish mechanism
- Oil wood (piccolos)
- Headjoint cork replacement
- Oil mechanism
- Adjust keys & regulate mechanism
- Remove all leaks
- QA play-testing by our in-house professional flutists
A well-constructed, well-maintained instrument may go as long as 10-15 years before requiring a complete overhaul - a much more extensive version of the annual servicing (the Clean, Oil, and Adjust). Before we perform an overhaul we will evaluate your instrument to determine if a full overhaul is warranted.
Think of it as a full engine rebuild for your car, but on a more delicate level.
An overhaul includes everything covered in a COA as well as :
- Replace ALL pads
- Replace ALL felts & corks
- Remove dents & scratches
- QA play-testing (extended period for mechanism settling) by our in-house professional flutists.
Common instruments upgrades include but are not limited to:
- High-E facilitator
- D# roller
- Lip-plate engraving
- Headjoint fitting
- Pad upgrades
- Additional key extension
