Blavet, M :: Sonata in D op. 2, No. 2
G. Schirmer presents 'Sonata in D op. 2, No. 2' for flute and piano by Michel Blavet, edited by Louis Moyse.
The editor writes about this piece, "Eighteenth century composers used to 'portray' for the King's pleasure, contentment, and entertainment, by means of musical symbols, the moods, feelings, and actions of ladies of rank, beauty, or wit at the French court.
"Blavet followed this fashion, and the sonatas in this eries are named: "L'Henriette," "La Vibray," "La Dherouville," "La Lumagne," "La Chauvet," and "La Doucet." Each one represents a prominent figure of the time. We do not know the specific qualities of these ladies, but we may assume, judging by the beauty of the melodic line, and the delicate refinement expressed in the music, that they greatly inspired the composer; and centuries later, we still find these portraits priceless, giving us pleasure, contentment, and entertainment."
