Chaska Ediciones presents 'Surquillo' for flute and piano by Daniel Cueto.
This piece is a dance in the style of a Peruvian 'marinera nortena,' a courtship dance that uses handkerchiefs as a means of expression. As a musical genre, the Marinera fuses several different influences present in Peruvian culture: on one side, Spanish influences can be heard in the harmony, the melodic ornaments, and the metric structure that alternates between 3/4 and 6/8. At the same time, the use of bimodality is characteristic of Andean music. The Marinera also reveals influence of African music, especially in the use of the cajon, an instrument of Afro-Peruvian origin, which always accompanies the sung Marinera.
'Surquillo' was written for Cecilia Pinto, young violinist and Marinera dancer who is a good friend of the composer. Surquillo means 'small groove', and is the name of the Lima district where Cecilia lived for many years.

Sheet music, instrument purchases, and Special Order Only (SOO) merchandise are non-returnable.
For other non-instrument merchandise, request return authorization or make an in-person return within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. Items must be unused, undamaged, in their original packaging with all contents, and accompanied by the original receipt or invoice. Electronic media must be unopened.
Shipped returns require prior authorization. Return Authorizations (RAs) are valid for 10 calendar days from issue. The RA number must appear on the package, and the return must arrive within that period.
Defective merchandise may be exchanged for an identical item if requested within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. After that period, contact the manufacturer. Please contact us promptly about fulfillment errors.
