Concerto Gioioso, op. 33

Ancelin, P

From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, Pierre Ancelin’s Concerto Gioioso for flute strings and piano, op. 33, is a beautiful work, in three movements. Written in 1971, Ancelin states, "The joy which makes the soul dance, this joy which arises from the pleasure of feeling alive, of feeling loving and loving, it is not ashamed to turn into music. To write for the pleasure that one has for oneself, for the pleasure that one can give to others, to write out of love for an instrument - the flute - out of love for the one who is playful and to whom these pages are dedicated - my woman - is very exhilarating! Each of these three movements responds to an imprint of this joy coiled in me. Two light movements unfolding in space, in the style of Classical Allegros frame a large and serene movement. I wanted to contend with the flutist and give pride of place to this instrument so agile, so tender, so dreamy. I wanted to speak a simple language so that real communication could be established. I wanted a whole pleasure to be, to love, to feel to manifest itself without shame. Melodies, lyricism and cheerful rhymes run through this work - more if not perhaps this scent of a happy soul."

Flutists and audiences are certain to fall in love with this virtuosic concerto. Pierre Ancelin was a prolific 20th century French composer.
