Daphne

Ancelin, P

From the publisher, Gerard Billaudot, Pierre Ancelin’s Daphne for flute and piano is a contest piece for the 1984 Paris Conservatory (Concours du Conservatoire de Paris). The Concours is one of the most prestigious flute competitions in the world. The composers that write a piece for this competition are famous for challenging flutists to go beyond what was once thought possible on the instrument, musically or technically. ‘Daphne’ opens with a slow, technical, improvisatory-esque flute solo. The piano joins in seamlessly, adding weight and texture to the flute. The middle of the piece features another flute solo, before piano takes off at lightning speed with the flute for a stellar and exciting finish. Daphne is an essential addition to any flutist’s library. Pierre Ancelin was a prolific 20th century French composer.
