Dance Of The Sprite is a gentle but Scherzo-like work for flute choir. The music is written in a lilting 6/8, with 3/4 rhythms punctuating the mischievous yet dream like quality of the harmonic structure. Depicting the antics of the sprite Puck from A Midsummer Night's Dream, the work eases from key to key using modality to darken the tonality throughout the piece leading to a gentle, unexpected final phrase.
Flute ensemble: piccolo, 3 flutes, 4th flute or alto flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute.
