Flutists know Joachim Andersen (1847-1909) as the composer of 188 masterful etudes that have challenged and inspired musicians for over a century. These etudes are his legacy, but they should not completely overshadow his 54 works for flute and piano, which include both brilliant showpieces (two of which served as Paris Conservatory concours works in the 1890s) and charming miniatures for the salon.
"Au bord de la mer' shows Anderson at his most creative. Expansive for a 'morceau de salon,' it opens with a long piano introduction of undulating triplets that sets the scene of an inconstant, at times turbulent, sea. Evocative harmonies, later associated with French Impressionism, and passionate rubato contribute to the scene. Although the work can be understood in ternary form with respect to its tonal scheme, thematically, it is better described as a fantasie.

For other non-instrument merchandise, request return authorization or make an in-person return within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. Items must be unused, undamaged, in their original packaging with all contents, and accompanied by the original receipt or invoice. Electronic media must be unopened.
Shipped returns require prior authorization. Return Authorizations (RAs) are valid for 10 calendar days from issue. The RA number must appear on the package, and the return must arrive within that period.
Defective merchandise may be exchanged for an identical item if requested within 10 calendar days of the original invoice date. After that period, contact the manufacturer. Please contact us promptly about fulfillment errors.
