Falls House Press presents "Fantasy on Syrinx" for flute alone by composer Peter John Bacchus.
The composer writes about this piece, "We flutists have solo pieces such as Syrinx as part of our repertory for all of our musical lives, and for me that can feel a bit limiting. We tend to look upon works by the great composers as written in stone, sacred, and never to be touched. But I find myself with the need to manipulate what a composer has written as if it were the soft clay in my own hands. This is what this 'Fantasy on Syrinx' is about. Like my 'Fantasy on the Allemande,' the piece can be learned and performed as a concert piece, or it can be used as a study to help the player enter into the ideas of Syrinx, and then return to the original work with renewed perspective."
