Johann Sebastian Bach s cycle of three sonatas and three partitas for unaccompanied violin represents an uncontested point of culmination in western music for the violin. The pieces set new standards both in instrumental performance and compositional technique standards that have lost none of their currency over the years.

This edition is Urtext and not transcribed; because of this, these pieces are playable on flute but contain some notes out of its range as well as multiple stops that must either be omitted or played as graces. This violin edition is provided for those who wish to study and compare other flute transcriptions or create their own transcriptions of these famous pieces, notably the Chaconne.
