Bach, JS :: Suite in B Minor BWV 1067
Bach, JS
The Suite in B minor for Flute, Strings and Basso Continuo is the second of a series of four Orchestral Suites which may have been written between 1718 and 1227 when Bach held the post of Kapellmesiter at Coethen. The original manuscript score is lost but a manuscript set of parts used for performance in Leipzig is preserved. Of these the Flute, the 1st Violin and the figured Bass parts are written in Bach s own hand.
In the present practical edition the contrapuntal web of parts had to be simplified in order to make it playable on the piano. The Flute part however corresponds to the original. Notes printed in small type in the accompaniment can be omitted. The figured bass has been taken into account in completing the harmonies. Expression marks have been added very sparingly as it is felt that in interpretation of Bach s music a great deal can be left to the discretion of the player.
