Seven Duets op. 28

Berbiguier, BT

Benoit Tranquille Berbiguier (1782-1835) taught himself to play the flute, violin and cello at a very early age. He left home at the age of 23 in order to study flute against the will of his family. He composed a lot of duets for flute and cello because one of his friends was playing cello. He also wrote around 15 duet books, 7 concertos, 6 flute solos and 7 books of sonatas, variations, fantasies, trios and romances. His flute studies were published around 1818.

Berbiguier's flute works are mainly in the Classical style with slight characteristics of the emerging Romanticism of the time these duets would have been composed. Berbiguier flute pieces are always great tools for flutists to learn how to phrase and bring out the intended melodies within the chord structures while also being satisfying and beautiful pieces of music for performer and audience alike.
