Blanquer, A

Amando Blanquer, born in Alcoy, Spain 1935, was a musically talented child and young adult, attracting numerous benefactors who enabled him to study at the Conservatorio de Valencia, in Paris with Olivier Messiaen, and in Rome with Petrassi. He later returned to the Conservatorio de Valencia to teach and compose, leaving behind a wealth of deeply Spanish musical works, many for wind instruments or for band.

The Concerto for Flute, written 1986, is a more playful entry in his oeuvre. A standard concerto form in three movements - Allegro with a cadenza, Larghetto Canzonetta, Allegro Vivace finale - is richly colored by clever bitonalities, catchy melodic material idiomatically and naturally virtuosic, and an equal partnership with the orchestra.

Here, Blanquer presents the Concerto in its reduction for flute and piano, by the composer. Duration: 15:00. For advanced players.
