The editors write about this piece, 'We have followed the source as closely as possible in all essentials, even in layout and pagination. We simply adapted the placing of the accidentals to modern usage. For better handling of the extensive collection, we have split it into two volumes. 

'Few works are so illustrative as our collection of Duets of that fact that 'intellect' and 'emotion' are not opposites. That our head, whether we wish it or not, is part of our body as a whole. And that making music, beside providing the enjoyment of muscle movement and of playing with or against one another, also offers the charm of reflection, of trial and error and improvement.
