The composer writes about this piece, ''Vesper flight' is the term scientists gave the unusual flight path of swifts at twilight. As the sun begins to set, they fly directly up into the evening sky until, to our human eye, they seem to disappear. I found something wonderfully poetic about this ritual and its name. I wrote 'Vesper Flight' as a metaphor for our ability, as earthbound humans, to release into the night sky some of the grief and anxiety that weighs us down.'
