Fulvio Caldini presents Thelema's Hot Machine, for flute (or oboe) alone.
Minimalism has finally made its way to the oboe world. Caldini has written a clever little piece that begins with a simple swinging melody which repeats four times and sets up a rhythmical groove that doesn't let up until the end. Gradually this simple opening figure is transformed almost one note at a time into a melody that covers the entire range of the instrument and a complex rhythmic structure. As with a lot of minimalism there is a great deal of repetition here. But experiencing the evolution of this musical work through subtle changes to a basic repeated pattern is what makes it a joy to listen to.
