Cesarini, F :: 2nd Flute Quartet Op. 30
Cesarini, F
Dedicated to flutist Peter-Lukas Graf, Franco Cesarini's 2nd Quartet for four c flutes is a work of contrasting and dynamic style.
Every movement is based on a different scale or 'mode', between six and ten notes. The two outer movements constitute polar opposites, one dreaming (Demiteintes), the other wild (Feroce) - representing the different sides of the human soul. The same dichotic relationship makes the central movements stand out - one frenetic and vigorous (Ostinato), the other bucoli and charming (Bergerades). The turning point of the composition is the third movement (Fragments d'un reve).
The expressionist language of Cesarini's second quartet shows the extreme care of the composer to reconcile rich expressiveness with an enquiring depth.
For advanced players.
