Chamouard, P :: Etude argosienne
Publisher: Gerard Billaudot
Gerard Billaudot presents "Etude argosienne" for flute and piano by composer Philippe Chamouard.
The composer writes about this piece, "The ancient Greeks are well known for their competitive spirit. Their numerous athletic games, horse races, and music competitions took place mainly in Olympia, Athens, Delphi, and Corinth. In Argos, the games known as the Shield of Argos were created especially for musicians. There were contests in playing the kithara or the aulos, in solo performance or together with a singer. In my composition, the flute replaces the aulos but the music retains the virtuosity and the improvised character of the ancient Greek contests."
