Antonio Victorino d'Almeida is one of the most prolific Portuguese composers. He has written everything, including piano solos, chamber music, symphony and choral-symphonic music, lied, opera, and cinematic and theater scores.
The Fantasia No. 1, for flute and piano, is a large-scale, luscious work, especially filled with Impressionist melodic lines and a more modern take on Bozza or Ravel's complex musical language. Several contrasting sections allow for several expressions of this language, from quick light dance forms to long soliloquys that drift over strange, luminous colors in the piano.
